There seems to be a fad going round that will not die. The fad is
the strong, overwhelming belief that there is some food out there that
is going to miraculously burn off the fat, melt the pounds away and mean
that you can continue eating and drinking whatever you want because the
magic berry will make it all better in the end. Let's start with the
detox claims of some of these wonder foods... this is my absolute pet
hate! There is no food that will detox your body. End of sentence.
Seriously - there is no one food or even set of foods that can detox
your body. Your body can only detox through use of the detox organs
which are - in no particular order.....your lungs, your kidneys, your
skin and your liver.
That's it. No magic, no fluff, no-nonsense. Those are the only organs of the body that allow toxins and junk to be eliminated from our systems. So to help detox our bodies we need to do whatever we can to support those organs to allow them to do their jobs efficiently without too much wear and tear. For example if we are eating a very clean diet and drinking no alcohol then the liver does not have to spend its time fire fighting trying to process the junk and protect us from it. Instead it can start processing the junk that is already stored in our systems and begin the detox process for real. So here we get to the juicy part of the story. There are some foods that support the detox organs. That help them, support them and allow them to do their jobs more easily. That does not make these foods detox foods exactly but they do help the detox process. At our weight loss boot camp we make sure our clients eat a diet rich in the following foods to help support the detox organs and make the process a little more comfortable:
